CURRENT OPENINGS

On-Air Personality / Multi-Format Host

Home Slice Group  |  Rapid City, SD  |  Full-Time, Salaried

Home Slice Group is hyper-local, and we mean it. We’re owned right here, we live here, and every show we put out is made for the people of Western South Dakota… not piped in from a corporate studio two time zones away. We’re looking for a versatile on-air talent who gets that, and who wants to be a real voice in this community. This is a high-visibility role across three of our stations and one of our flagship podcasts, so we want someone who genuinely loves being on the mic and connecting with the people right outside the window.

What you’ll do

  • Host the morning show on Hot 93.1, our Top 40 station. This is the anchor of your day and the face of the brand to morning listeners across the Black Hills.
  • Co-host Second Shift on The Mix and Kat Country, bringing energy to the afternoon drive.
  • Cover an on-air shift on The Cowboy, our country station.
  • Host Rapid City Business Journal, our community-focused podcast built around the local businesses, people, and conversations that actually matter to Western South Dakota.
  • Host and emcee live events like Hot Hunks, Summer Nights, and other appearances that come up throughout the year. You’ll be out in the community, face to face with the listeners you talk to every morning. If you light up in front of a crowd, this is your stage.

What we’re looking for

  • Someone who wants to be part of this community, not just broadcast to it. The best people in this job know the town, the events, the names, and the stories.
  • A natural on-air presence who can shift voice and energy between Top 40, country, and long-form interview formats.
  • Someone comfortable on a live mic in front of a crowd, not just in the studio. Event hosting and public appearances are part of the gig.
  • Prior on-air experience is a strong plus, but we’ll train the right personality. If you’ve got the instincts and the work ethic, we want to hear from you.
  • Comfort (or willingness to learn) on the production side… voicetracking, basic audio editing, and running a board are all helpful here.
  • Strong interview and conversation skills, especially for Rapid City Business Journal, where booking guests and prepping for real discussions is part of the job.
  • Reliability and ownership. You’ll report directly to the Operations Manager and be trusted to carry your shows.

Why Home Slice Group

We’re a locally owned, hyper-local media company running six radio stations and a 21-show podcast network across Western South Dakota. We’re not a national chain reading off a script. We’re a complete local information ecosystem, built by people who live here, for people who live here. We believe in real community connection and giving our talent room to grow right where they’re planted.

Experienced Journalist

The Rapid City Post is looking for a versatile, high-energy journalist to join our newsroom. If you have a nose for news, a passion for the Black Hills community, and the ability to turn a dry press release into a compelling story, we want to talk to you.

As a General Assignment Reporter, you’ll be the heartbeat of our local coverage. One day you’ll be covering a city council meeting, and the next you might be rushing to the scene of breaking news. We pride ourselves on being first and being accurate, all while keeping the “local” in local news.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be the First on Scene: Monitor local scanners and leads to provide rapid, accurate coverage of breaking news.
  • Local Beat Coverage: Transform press releases and community tips into engaging feature stories that matter to Rapid City residents.
  • Field Reporting: Attend press conferences and community events (mostly within a 20-mile radius).
  • Multimedia Storytelling: Capture high-quality photos to accompany your stories and manage their post-production online.
  • Social Media Engagement: Distill complex stories into punchy, shareable updates for our social platforms to drive digital traffic.

What You Bring to the Table

  • Sharp Writing: The ability to write clean, concise copy under tight deadlines.
  • Forward-Thinking Mindset: We value an early adopter of new technology including AI. You should be eager to integrate modern digital tools and emerging software to streamline your workflow, automate routine tasks, and enhance your storytelling capabilities.
  • Visual Eye: Experience with digital photography and basic photo editing software.
  • Digital Savvy: A deep understanding of how to use social media as a journalistic tool, not just a megaphone.
  • Reliability: This is an in-office position. You must have a valid driver’s license and dependable transportation for infrequent travel to local events.
  • Open to AI tools: ready to learn how to use AI in journalism to deliver news faster and more accurately.
  • Photography: Can take basic photography for stories.

Bonus Points For:

  • Design Skills: Experience with Adobe InDesign for page layout and print production.
  • Local Knowledge: A pre-existing familiarity with the Rapid City area and West River culture.
  • Videography
  • Social Media

Why Join the Post?

We offer a collaborative environment where your voice is heard and your byline matters. You will have a tremendous impact on the organization and will be able to make an impact on the company. This is a chance to be a key player in a newsroom that values tradition but isn’t afraid to embrace the future of the industry. We’re locally owned and operated but have the backing of a media group, The HomeSlice Group, that owns 6 radio stations and it’s own digital agency.

Note: This position requires a flexible mindset. While most work happens in the office, the news doesn’t always keep a 9-to-5 schedule.
